What is Raspberry Pi OS
Overview
Raspberry Pi OS is the official operating system supported by Raspberry Pi for its ecosystem.
In the context of SECO Pi Vision 10.1 CM5, the goal is to maximize time-to-first-value. The device ships with Raspberry Pi OS preinstalled, and the user can start immediately with a stable, familiar environment to turn the hardware into an operational project within minutes.
From an operational standpoint, the target flow is linear: power on, network, then you are already in delivery.
Features
Raspberry Pi OS provides a complete environment for development and usage, covering the key building blocks needed for prototypes, demos, and edge applications: a graphical user interface, development tools, networking, updates, and access to a broad software ecosystem.
On Pi Vision 10.1 CM5, this translates into out-of-the-box capabilities that enable immediate scenario testing:
- Integrated 10.1” touchscreen ready to use.
- Support for common USB devices [for example, a USB camera].
- Support for Bluetooth devices [for example, speakers and microphones].
- Remote access for development and support, via SSH or Raspberry Pi Connect.
- Updates and package management using standard Linux tools via apt
In terms of distribution, Raspberry Pi publishes different editions for the official documentation, you can visit: Raspberry Pi OS Documentation
Supported Architectures
Raspberry Pi OS is distributed in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. The Raspberry Pi documentation states that the latest version is based on Debian Trixie, with the previous version based on Debian Bookworm.
