EVAL-KIT-SOM-SMARC

KitE71

EVAL-KIT-SOM-SMARC is SECO’s evaluation kit designed to help developers and technical teams quickly start evaluation, prototyping, and first validation activities across the SMARC platforms in the SECO portfolio. Based on the Carrier-SMARC-E71, the kit provides a ready-to-use setup that reduces initial complexity and speeds up the transition from hardware evaluation to a first proof of concept.

The kit is available in two main configurations: ARM and X86.

  • ARM P/N: KTDV-E71-01.00
  • X86 P/N: KTDV-E71-03.00

The two configurations are intended for essential bring-up and initial validation activities. It includes the Carrier-SMARC-E71, the power supply kit 12v, and Universal adapter.

Carrier-SMARC-E71

The hardware foundation of the kit is the Carrier-SMARC-E71, a 3.5-inch carrier board designed to host SMARC 2.1.1-compliant modules and support proof-of-concept and early application development activities. For more details on layout, interfaces, power input, and the board’s complete specifications, refer to the dedicated Dev Center page.

How to connect the module to the carrier

Installing the module on the carrier is the first step in preparing the kit for startup. In this section, we show how to correctly align the module with the E71 SMARC connector and complete the mechanical fastening safely.

How to Plug-in a SMARC Module to the E71 Carrier Board (Coming soon)

Physical installation and first boot

Once the kit has been assembled with the carrier, module, and thermal solution, you can complete the initial physical installation by connecting the essential peripherals and preparing the system for first boot.

Step 1: Position the kit

Place the kit on a stable surface and make sure all components are properly secured.

Step 2: Connect the display

Connect the external monitor through the video interface required by the configuration in use, for example HDMI.

Step 3: Connect keyboard and mouse

Connect the keyboard and mouse to the USB ports available on the carrier.

Step 4: Connect network if needed

If required, connect the Ethernet cable for network access, updates, or onboarding.

Step 5: Connect the power supply

Connect the power supply using the included power supply kit.

Step 6: Power on the system

Turn on the kit and wait for the boot sequence to complete.

Step 7: Verify the first boot

Check that the system completes startup correctly and that the connected peripherals are operational.

Advanced setup tutorial

The step-by-step structure below should be finalized based on the actual photo and video materials and on the cable kit effectively provided for each SKU.

Identify the correct cable or accessory

Check the SKU, connector, and compatibility with your kit configuration.

Check connector orientation

Check orientation, keying, and positioning before insertion.

Connect the cable or accessory

Make the connection without forcing the connector.

Secure the installation if required

If needed, complete the mechanical fastening or cable routing.

Power on and validate

Restart the system and verify that the connected peripheral or interface is correctly detected.
